What is the difference between Original Genesis and Genesis Mini Bows?

Chris Larsen | Tuesday, May 6, 2014

The Genesis Original Bow and Genesis Mini are very similar with the main difference being size. The Original Genesis is 35 1/2 inches axle to axle. This dimension is measured from the center of the top whell and the center of the cam at the bottom of the bow. The Genesis Mini is 29 1/8” axle to axle. So the Genesis Mini is shorter and it is also lighter. The Mini is just 2 pounds compared to 2.95 pounds with the Genesis Original.

There are also some key differences in the performance of the bows. The draw weight of the Original Genesis is adjustable from ten to twenty pounds. The Mini Genesis is adjustable from six to 12 pounds. Draw length on both bows is infinite meaning that there is no let off on the bow. It doesn’t matter who shoots the bow, there are no draw length adjustments required. However, the draw length ranges are different. The Original Genesis can be shot by archers with draw lengths up to 30”. The Genesis Mini is perfect for archers with draw lengths up to 25”.

What does all of this mean? What Genesis bow is the best for you? It depends on your situation. If your young archer plans on competing in the National Archery In The Schools Program (NASP), the choice is simple. The Original Genesis is the only bow allowed in NASP. NASP is an awesome program that teaches thousands of students archery, many of whom would never be introduced to archery without the program. However, most Genesis bows are purchased solely for the enjoyment of shooting a bow.

A really good guideline is grade level. Kids that are second grade or younger should probably start with a Genesis Mini. We’ve had kids as young as three shoot a Mini. It doesn’t mean older kids and even smaller framed adults can’t shoot a Mini but it is better suited for younger kids. If you’ve got a third grader or older, the Original Genesis is probably a better choice as it will grow with them.

Not that color should be a deciding factor but the Mini Genesis is available in five colors; Black with Red Cams, Blue Raspberry, Lost Camo, Pink Lemonade, and Red Cherry. The Original Genesis is available in those colors as well as Carbon, Lemon Yellow, Lime Green, Wildberry Purple, and Orange.
